Drivers take part in Easter festivities

All the major racing series are off for the Easter holiday, but some drivers are still taking time to join in several time-honored traditions.

Yesterday, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway made its annual claim as perhaps the best Easter egg-hunting ground ever by turning the kiddies loose inside Turn 3 of the Brickyard in a rush for Easter treats. IZOD IndyCar Series drivers Ed Carpenter (pictured) and Alex Tagliani also dropped in on the event, which was open to the public.

“Any reason to get out to IMS is a good reason and it’s always fun to bring the family out here and have some fun,” Carpenter told Indianapolis TV station WISH-TV.

Meanwhile, former IndyCar racer and current NASCAR Sprint Cup rookie Danica Patrick will be spending Monday at the White House as part of its 135th annual Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn. She will be one of multiple guest readers for the Roll, joining NFL phenom Adrian Peterson, Sesame Street, the Super Sprowtz, and child actress Quvenzhane Wallis, the youngest actress to ever receive a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.

The White House expects to entertain more than 35,000 guests for the Roll on Monday.
