Nissan unveils electric car for Le Mans 2014

Nissan has unveiled the electric car it plans to campaign as a Garage 56 entrant in the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The ZEOD RC (Zero Emission On Demand Racing Car) seeks to borrow from Nissan’s road technology – following on from the LEAF road car and LEAF RC race prototype – to reach speeds of more than 300 km/h.

The car will be run as a Nissan/Nismo full factory international program with input from Japan, Europe and the U.S.

“Nissan has become a global leader in the development of zero emission automotive technology and the Nissan ZEOD RC will allow us to further develop those capabilities using the toughest endurance race in the world as a mobile test bed to test the potential of our planned LMP1 power train,” said Andy Palmer, Executive Vice President and Executive Committee member at Nissan Motor Company Limited.

As a Garage 56 entrant for experimental technologies, the car will run unclassified.

Entities involved with the car include Ben Bowlby, who has been named as Nissan’s Director of Motorsport Innovation, and tire technical partner Michelin, who will produce tires for the car.
