Only a quarter of the race remains in the 90th Anniversary 24 Hours of Le Mans, although that’s still the length of a standard FIA World Endurance Championship event. More long safety car periods have occurred as this year’s Le Mans passes the 18-hour mark.
The most recent involved a spin by Andrea Belicchi in the No. 13 Rebellion Racing Lola B12/60 Toyota (pictured) on the exit of the second chicane on the Mulsanne straight. Belicchi tore off the front end of his car against an Armco barrier and slowly trundled back to the pits with his wounded chariot.
That takes Rebellion out of the overall top five and should promote the No. 1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro, which had an alternator replaced, back to the top five shortly.
It’s still No. 2 Audi from No. 8 and No. 7 Toyotas in LMP1, with the two OAK Racing Morgan Nissans 1-2 in LMP2 (No. 35 ahead of No. 24) and the Greaves No. 42 Zytek ZS11 Nissan P3 in class.
The GTE ranks are still led by Aston Martin, with the No. 99 Vantage in GTE Pro, and Porsche, with the No. 76 Imsa Performance Matmut 911 in GTE Am.
