Williams will become the third team in Formula One history to reach their milestone 600th Grand Prix start at their home race this weekend.
It was at Silverstone that the team scored its first world championship victory in 1979. But they arrive at this weekend’s race yet to score a point in their 2013 campaign.
Valtteri Bottas claimed a surprise third on the grid in the rain-hit qualifying session in Canada last time out, but faded to 14th in dry conditions on race day. The rookie driver is hoping for similar conditions this weekend to improve the team’s chances.
“This is going to be a very special weekend for Williams, celebrating 600 races in front of our home fans at a track which has a lot of history for the team and is great fun to drive,” said Bottas.
The rookie driver has more F1 experience of this circuit than most others: “I drove in [first practice] last year and at the Young Drivers Test so I have experience of driving a Formula One car at Silverstone which is always helpful in getting up to speed quickly.”
Only Ferrari and McLaren have amassed more F1 starts than Williams. They’ve won the British Grand Prix ten times, that last coming with Jacques Villeneuve in 1997.
