One of the protagonists from the 2014 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires season was Zach Veach, who battled Gabby Chaves and Jack Harvey for the championship throughout the season. Chaves ultimately prevailed over Harvey in a tiebreaker, with Veach a close third.
Veach didn’t race much in 2015, with his sports car debut at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in a JDC/Miller Motorsports Prototype Challenge car serving as his most recent major championship start.
He spent most of the year as a color analyst for the IMS Radio Network for both Verizon IndyCar Series and Indy Lights sessions.
The 20-year-old of Stockdale, Ohio, who spent five full years in the Mazda Road to Indy ladder from 2010 through 2014, made his return to the series but driving one of the new Dallara IL-15 Mazda chassis for the first time this week.
Veach completed a two-day test with Belardi Auto Racing at Sebring International Raceway’s short course - a hotbed for winter testing - along with Andretti Autosport’s Shelby Blackstock and at least one other car.
The potential exists Veach could return to the series in 2016 for what would be his third season (2013-2014), but at the very least, he’s now sampled the new machinery for the first time.
See a few tweets and photos below that he’s shared on social media.
It was a great day guys, thank you so much for making it possible! https://t.co/LqFl3hU2tO
