There’s been a pair of Verizon IndyCar Series tests in the last week, at the one-mile oval of Phoenix International Raceway and at Sonoma Raceway.
And luckily, there’s been a pair of on-board videos captured from a lower angle than the usual over airbox on-board you’ll see on race weekends themselves.
At Phoenix, Graham Rahal debuted some GoPro footage from the new HERO5 Black camera that, while having a slight technical glitch in the mph in corners, showed just what 190 mph average on a one-mile oval looks like from the cockpit of his No. 15 United Rentals Honda for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

People think driving these cars are easy. Watching a camera is deceiving, they're challenging as hell, and when it snaps, it's gone!

Meanwhile, Spencer Pigot and Ed Carpenter Racing teammate JR Hildebrand tested at Sonoma earlier this week. Here’s a view over the left shoulder as Pigot works his No. 20 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet. This video is via the @RaceSonoma Twitter account.

This hopefully shows how talented these drivers are and what beasts these cars are to drive.
The season opens in St. Petersburg on March 12 and resumes on NBCSN in Long Beach on April 9.
