Hamilton, Bottas to split Mercedes F1 test running daily in Barcelona

Mercedes has confirmed that drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will split each day of Formula 1 pre-season testing in Barcelona, taking alternate morning and afternoon sessions.

Hamilton and Bottas were on-hand to unveil Mercedes’ new F1 car, the W08 EQ Power+, at Silverstone on Thursday, as well as both completing a filming run behind the wheel.

The first extended running for Mercedes will come in Barcelona next week, with pre-season testing set to begin on Monday February 27.

As part of its launch announcement, Mercedes confirmed that it will split every day of running in Barcelona between Hamilton and Bottas, with each getting four hours in the car.

Bottas will be the first to test the W08 EQ Power+ publicly, taking it out for the start of testing on Monday, with Hamilton then getting his maiden run that afternoon.

Thursday’s Stage 12 of the 40th Dakar Rally not only closed the overall standings gap in at least two classes (cars and trucks), two other classes (bikes and quads) failed to get going due to weather conditions.

Ton van Genugten edged out Martin Kolomy in Stage of, while Federico Villagra and Eduard Nikolaev both faced an uphill battle to finish fourth and third respectively.

QUADS

Even though the Quads were also impacted by weather issues on Thursday, Ignacio Casale, the 2014 Dakar winner, continues to make his case for a second overall victory in the quads.
