Porsche has completed its GTE Pro line-up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June after confirming Patrick Pilet and Dirk Werner as the third drivers for each of its cars at the endurance classic.

Porsche returns to the FIA World Endurance Championship’s GTE Pro class with a factory effort in 2017 after a year away, fielding a pair of new, mid-engined Porsche 911 RSRs.

The German marque had already confirmed Michael Christensen, Kevin Estre, Richard Lietz and Frederic Makowiecki in its No. 91 and 92 entries, with the quartet being firmed up for the full WEC season.

Porsche factory drivers Pilet and Werner will join them for Le Mans, racing in the No. 91 and 92 cars respectively. Pilet will team up with Christensen and Estre, with Werner joining Lietz and Makowiecki.

“Choosing the drivers for the most important race of the year was actually easy,” said head of Porsche motorsport Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser.

“Our driver squad is so strong we basically couldn’t make a mistake. Patrick Pilet and Dirk Werner are the perfect complement to our regular team members.

“It is definitely an advantage that they all know each other very well from the races in the USA. We’re in an excellent position for Le Mans with these drivers.”

Pilet, Werner and Makowiecki finished on the podium in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January as the mid-engined Porsche RSR 911 made its race debut, and currently sit fourth in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship standings.
