#11 Tony Kanaan
- Team: KV Racing Technology
- Engine: Chevrolet
- Sponsors: GEICO/Mouser Electronics
- 2012: Ninth Place, 3 Podiums
2012 WRAP: Kanaan’s year started poorly, improved rapidly during the oval portion of the schedule and then tailed off again in the second half of the year spent primarily on road and street courses. He had a shot at the A.J. Foyt Oval Trophy going into Fontana on the strength of three oval podium finishes, including a near-miss at Indianapolis despite some strong restarts. His qualifying was never great (14th-place average on road and street courses, compared to 8.6 on ovals), and that left him with a lot of work to do on Sundays.
2013 OUTLOOK: Kanaan’s “brother” Rubens Barrichello is no longer in the team, nor is KV’s third driver E.J. Viso, which leaves Kanaan as one of the few major holdovers. Team manager Mark Johnson also departed at the end of the year. TK’s not getting any younger at age 38, but remains one of the series’ best on ovals. With new teammate Simona de Silvestro wanting to prove herself in a competitive ride, that may push Kanaan to greater heights and perhaps a return to victory lane for the first time since 2010.
