Venezuelan driver Rodolfo Gonzalez has signed as reserve driver for the Marussia Formula 1 team. The 26-year-old has tested for Force India and Caterham before, and as reserve, will travel to all 19 rounds and participate in selected Friday free practice one sessions.
“I am very excited to be joining the Marussia F1 Team and at such an exciting time in their development,” said Gonzalez. “Working closely with the race drivers and engineers at every stage of the race weekend is a fantastic opportunity for me to learn outside of the car and I hope that I can make a significant contribution to the team’s progress. I am looking forward to being part of the team, starting this weekend in Melbourne, and I would like to thank the team for their trust in me and this fantastic opportunity.”
Marussia is the only team to start this season with two rookie drivers, in Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton. The last team to do so was HRT in its 2010 debut, with Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna.
