Qualifying groups and procedure update from IndyCar in Detroit

IndyCar updated the procedure for the second qualifying session, to be held at 9:15 a.m. ET Saturday morning, for the second of the Chevrolet Indy Dual at Detroit races.

Pole position will be awarded to the best overall lap time from either of the two groups. The remainder of the cars from the polesitter’s qualifying group will occupy the odd-numbered positions on the grid, based by lap times, while the even-numbered positions will be filled by the other group.

One point will be awarded to the entrant and driver with the fastest time in each group.
