Sebastian Vettel a big fan of Canadian GP

The Canadian Grand Prix is one of the few races that Sebastian Vettel is yet to win, but the defending world champion is looking forward to returning to one of his favorite events on the Formula One calendar.

“The circuit has a nice rhythm and it’s one of the best races we have all year,” Vettel said in Red Bull’s GP preview. “The atmosphere and fans are great, the whole city lives F1 for the whole week and that makes us feel very special. I like it.”

Vettel came closest to winning the race in 2011, when, after a lengthy rain delay and red flag, he stormed into the lead. However, the conditions slowly improved, allowing Jenson Button to recover from last place (having made six pit stops) and win the race, passing Vettel on the very last lap.

“Obviously one of the craziest moments was in 2011. There was so much rain; I haven’t seen that much rain carry on for so long since! During the race we had a big break and were in the lead.

“The race was difficult and with half a lap to go, I made my first mistake of the race which cost us the win. But that’s racing and it’s probably great for the fans to watch when they don’t know who is going to win until the last moment.”

It is unlikely that Vettel will be hoping for a repeat of this race as he chases his third win of the season, building upon a second-place finish in the Monaco Grand Prix which saw him extend his championship lead.
