Perhaps the most prestigious appearance for any driver in his or her post-Indianapolis 500 victory media tour is a trip to The Late Show with David Letterman. 2013 champion Tony Kanaan had his chance to visit the legendary Ed Sullivan Theater on Monday, after the IZOD IndyCar Series wrapped its doubleheader weekend in Detroit.

Kanaan’s week, beyond the interviews, also included an impromptu hair dying to blonde – thanks to a bet he made with his longtime friend and 2012 KV Racing Technology – SH teammate, Rubens Barrichello. Although he started the weekend in Detroit with the blonde hair, by the time he made it to Letterman’s show, he’d buzz cut his hair.

In Kanaan’s career, he’s never driven for Letterman, the co-owner of the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team. But his prior best finish in the race came in 2004, second to RLL’s then-driver, Buddy Rice, who took that year’s win in a rain-shortened race.
