Texas update: Castroneves leads the way - MotorSportsTalk

Helio Castroneves stretched out his Firestone Firehawks during his second stint of the night at Texas Motor Speedway and now leads the Firestone 550 at the halfway point after pit stops under yellow.

Oriol Servia lost control of his No. 4 Panther Racing Chevrolet in Turn 2, but was able to keep the car off the wall while spinning. That brought out the yellow at Lap 113 and the leaders to pit road, and Castroneves won the race off over teammate Will Power.

Castroneves has been one of several leaders this evening. Marco Andretti was very strong in the opening run, immediately taking the lead from pole sitter Power and holding it up to a caution at Lap 55 for Scott Dixon, who appeared to lose power shortly after pitting. Andretti was then shuffled to third behind Ryan Hunter-Reay and Josef Newgarden for the subsequent restart at Lap 64.

Hunter-Reay then controlled the proceedings for the next 30 or so laps until he went to pit road on Lap 93. That handed the lead to Andretti, but he could only hold onto it for five laps before Castroneves took it from him on the high line at Lap 98. Andretti then pitted at Lap 101 as green flag stops ensued.

DETROIT — Alex Palou topped the results of an NTT IndyCar Series race for the second time this season, extending his championship points lead with his victory in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix.

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver, who also won the GMR Grand Prix (and the Indy 500 pole position) last month, holds a 51-point lead over teammate Marcus Ericsson (ninth at Detroit) through seven of 17 races this season.

Ganassi, which placed all four of its drivers in the top 10 at Detroit, has three of the top four in the championship standings with Scott Dixon ranked fourth after a fourth at Detroit.
