Lotus has agreed to make modifications to the suspension on its E21 chassis in time for the German Grand Prix, the next round on the 2013 Formula One World Championship.
According to Autosport’s Jonathan Noble, the issue apparently stems from the amount of suspension components that can be connected together for an upright.
Per F1’s technical regulations, “up to three suspension members may be connected together by titanium, aluminum alloy or steel components before their load is passed into the upright.”
Noble writes that it can be “suggested” that Lotus’ system has four members connected together, and that McLaren asked the FIA at the British Grand Prix about whether or not Lotus’ suspension was proper. But it appears that with Lotus’ decision to tweak its suspension, the matter has been settled.
