While sometimes being overshadowed by his more famous veteran teammates, Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon, American driver Charlie Kimball had also been noticeably improving at Chip Ganassi Racing over the last two and a half seasons.
Last Sunday, the breakthrough finally came as Kimball perfectly executed a three-stop strategy and won at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for his first IZOD IndyCar Series victory – earning a measure of validation for himself and his No. 83 Novo Nordisk Honda crew.
“Getting a win quiets a lot of voices, for sure, especially voices within myself as a driver,” he said. “…To be able to come out and validate it to ourselves is a good thing and I think builds momentum for not just the rest of the season, but, you know, the next few years.”
