After sustaining minor injuries in a practice crash yesterday, Helio Castroneves has been ordered by doctors to skip tomorrow’s Stock Car Brasil race at Ribeirao Preto, Brazil according to the Associated Press.
Castroneves had the brakes malfunction on his car before hitting a concrete barrier and then, a tire barrier. A video of the incident (above) showed that the IZOD IndyCar Series championship leader was able to get out of the car by himself. However, he was still taken via ambulance to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.
Per this afternoon’s AP’s report, Stock Car Brasil medical director Dr. Dino Altmann said that after suffering cuts to his shins and having pain in his neck following the accident, Castroneves was “not really physically fit to race” in tomorrow’s street-course event at Ribeirao Preto.
