The twisting, turning road course of Watkins Glen International could have an impact this afternoon on the ongoing race to the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
After his victory last Sunday at Pocono, Kasey Kahne (eighth in the Sprint Cup standings) may have made himself a “Chaser” with his second triumph of 2013. But there’s still a crush of drivers behind him that are battling to punch their own tickets into NASCAR’s postseason.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at that tightly-contested bracket between ninth and 15th in the Cup championship as we get set to go racing in the Cheez-It 355 at the Glen.
9th place: Jeff Gordon (pictured – no wins, +3 points ahead of 10th)
Last five results at Watkins Glen: 29th, 37th, 10th, 13th, 27th.
Has won four times at the Glen, but not since 2001.
10th place: Greg Biffle (one win)
Last five results at Watkins Glen: 21st, 5th, 24th, 31st, 6th.
Fifth-place finish in 2009 is his best at WGI in Sprint Cup.
12th place: Brad Keselowski (no wins, -7 points out of 10th)
Career results at Watkins Glen: 20th, 2nd and 2nd.
Runner-up in last two Cup races at WGI; won Nationwide race yesterday.
13th place: Kurt Busch (no wins, -11 points out of 10th)

15th place: Ryan Newman (one win, -24 points out of 10th)
