Sonoma’s IndyCar race has had a couple minor controversies in the last two years – nothing national news-worthy but still a couple flare-ups from late race aggression.
Last year, Ryan Hunter-Reay drove one of his best races of the season for Andretti Autosport, and was close to a podium finish before a passing attempt by Alex Tagliani on the inside of Turn 7 went awry. The Canadian pitched “RHR” into a spin, and he confronted him after the race.
Although Hunter-Reay lost 32 points on the day to second-placed Will Power, he rebounded with a crucial win at Baltimore the next race, to stay alive for the series championship.
There’s no chance of an encore this year, not that either driver would want it, but particularly since Tagliani won’t be racing this weekend.
