Provisional grid for the Italian Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel may have claimed his fortieth career pole position yesterday at Monza, but the result ended something of a drought for the three-time world champion as he broke Lewis Hamilton’s streak of poles that had stretched back to the British Grand Prix back in June. For Vettel, the result was something of a surprise given Red Bull’s track record at Monza, but the biggest surprise of qualifying was Hamilton’s failure to make it into Q3 for the first time in sixty-seven races. A final shock came in the shape of Nico Hulkenberg, who gave Sauber something to smile about by qualifying an excellent third.

Following qualifying, there has been just one change to the grid due to a penalty:

The top ten drivers will all start on the medium tire, whilst the remainder of the grid has a free choice of starting rubber.
