It was announced late Thursday that Tim McKenzie, a driver in the Porsche IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge, had lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at age 57. McKenzie was a native of Madison, Wis. and drove for the Kelly-Moss Motorsports team.
Kelly-Moss team manager Jeff Stone offered these words on McKenzie in a tribute piece posted to the series website: “His mother says his passing was a peaceful one. I am deeply saddened at Tim’s passing and can tell you there was never a racer with a bigger heart or more passion for racing. The world was a better place with Tim in it. He will be missed by all.”
McKenzie’s inaugural season in GT3, in 2011, saw him win five of his first eight starts heading into his home race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. McKenzie finished 14th in the 2012 season championship.
