Provisional grid for the Korean Grand Prix

After three close practice sessions on Friday and Saturday morning, the fashion in which Sebastian Vettel claimed pole position yesterday came as a surprise. Mercedes had been the pace-setters in the first two sessions of the weekend with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg battling with Vettel and Mark Webber at the top of the timesheets. Ultimately though, Vettel had to post just one time in the first half of Q3 to do enough to secure pole ahead of Hamilton, producing an ominous pace as the German driver looks to extend his sixty point lead in the drivers’ championship.

Following qualifying, two changes have been made to the grid:

  • Mark Webber drops from P3 to P13 on the grid due to a ten place grid penalty that he received after picking up three reprimands across the course of the season, with the third and final sanction coming in Singapore.
  • Jules Bianchi received a three place grid penalty after he held up Paul di Resta during Q1 yesterday. Having qualified twenty-first, the Frenchman will drop just one place to last, elevating Max Chilton up one grid slot.
