Webber “not enjoying it as much” as F1 exit nears

Mark Webber says his enthusiasm for F1 has begun to wane as he nears the end of his 12th and final season in Formula One.

“You probably find little things that convince yourself that you’re not enjoying it as much as you were,” he told Sky in an interview.

Webber has never made any secret of the fact he dislikes the direction Formula One has gone in by adopting tires which wear out quickly.

“Little did I know what we were in for, probably, with the switch in tires from Bridgestone to Pirelli,” he said. “That was another thing; it’s up to the drivers to get your head around that and sort that out, but even within the same tire family – you can see it now with [Lotus team-mates] Kimi [Raikkonen] and [Romain] Grosjean – when you have these slight changes in tyres and how they can really affect the drivers’ performance.”

However Webber stressed he will continue to give his all in his final three races and is “still super-respectful of who I’m racing against”.

He added it was especially enjoyable to drive Red Bull’s cars because of their exceptional level of performance. “Adrian Newey is still probably on the biggest reasons I continue to drive, because to drive his cars is still very, very rewarding,” he said.
