Da Costa to test DTM touring car for BMW - MotorSportsTalk

After losing out on a 2014 Formula One seat at Scuderia Toro Rosso to Daniil Kvyat, Red Bull junior driver Antonio Felix da Costa may be setting his sights on touring cars for the time being.

The Portuguese young gun will drive a DTM car for BMW this Sunday in a rookie test alongside German competitor Jens Klingmann. However, a note from da Costa’s management stresses that their driver’s plans for next season are still to be decided.

“After several proposals, at the moment there are three options on the table and two of them are really strong possibilities,” the statement reads according to the website TouringCarTimes.

“His 2014 program should be decided and announced next week, but again at the moment nothing is signed or decided, so it’s all rumors.”

Da Costa was a hot pick to replace Daniel Ricciardo (now elevated to the senior Red Bull Racing team) at Toro Rosso, but in a bit of a surprise, Red Bull passed him over this fall in favor of Kvyat; the Russian has since gone on to win the 2013 GP3 title.

However, Red Bull continues to support da Costa and wants him to keep racing in a top-tier series for 2014.

da Costa raced this season in the Formula Renault 3.5 category, logging three wins and six podiums en route to a third-place finish in the standings behind incoming McLaren rookie Kevin Magnussen and Stoffel Vandoorne.

With three multiple winners now vying for the championship, the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series heads to Round 11 at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington.

Chase Sexton earned his second victory of the season in Detroit when Aaron Plessinger fell on the final lap. Though he was penalized seven points for disobeying a flag, Sexton is third in the championship race. The Honda rider trails leader Cooper Webb (two victories) by 17 points, and defending series champion Eli Tomac (five wins) is three points behind Webb in second with seven races remaining.

Tomac won last year in Seattle on the way to his second season title.

Honda riders have a Supercross-leading 20 victories in the Seattle event but none at Lumen Field since Justin Barcia in 2013. Tomac and Barcia are the only past 450 Seattke winners entered in Saturday’s event.
