Pirelli has confirmed it will remain as Formula One’s official tire supplier in a three-year deal that runs through 2016, the company announced Thursday.
Crucially, the release also says Pirelli and F1 will be working together to adjust and change the sporting regulations with regards to tire testing, since that was often an issue throughout the 2013 season.
One of the upcoming 12 days of preseason testing will be dedicated to wet-weather tire testing, and one of the eight in-season days will be dedicated exclusively to tire testing.
Thus far, teams have only had one wet practice session in Brazil to experiment with Pirelli’s new 2014 specification of tires. There will need to be extensive testing in the three preseason tests at Jerez and Bahrain to determine where teams are at with these new sets.
