The 2013 season saw a third major race added to long-standing independent Pocono Raceway, with the IndyCar race in July joining the two NASCAR Sprint Cup weekends either side of it.

Overall, the 2013 season was a great one economically for the “Tricky Triangle” in Long Pond, Pa. The raceway was honored Monday for its impact on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. State Gov. Tom Corbett and state Senate and House leaders acknowledged the $257,500,000 economic stimulus resulting from the events held at the Raceway last year.

“I want to thank Governor Corbett and the Pennsylvania Legislature for taking steps to ensure that not only Pocono Raceway, but Pennsylvania in general, is a great place to visit,” Brandon Igdalsky, Pocono Raceway President/CEO said in a release. “They are making investments in infrastructure and providing for opportunities for our facility to flourish.”

Additionally, Gov. Corbett announced approval for Route 115 by the Raceway to be widened, in what the track has called a “long-term project.”

Pocono’s 2014 race weekends are June 6-8 and August 1-3 for NASCAR, with IndyCar back for a now-500 mile race July 5-6.

LE CASTELLET, France (AP) — Still glowing from his win at the 24 Hours Le Mans, Fernando Alonso says he is not sure when he will try to complete motorsport’s unofficial Triple Crown with a victory at the Indianapolis 500.

Alonso says Thursday ahead of Formula One’s French Grand Prix that “I am still digesting a little bit the Le Mans win and (.) not taking too much into account (for) next year’s project.”

The two-time F1 world champion won the Le Mans classic endurance race last weekend together with teammates Kazuki Nakajima and Sebastien Buemi.

That leaves the Spaniard only one leg short of completing the Triple Crown of wins at Le Mans, Indy 500 and F1’s Monaco GP, which he has won twice.

Alonso raced the Indy 500 for the first time last year but an engine failure with 20 laps left ruined his chances.
