VIDEO: Maldonado gets airborne during Bahrain practice

Pastor Maldonado gave the floor of his Lotus E22 car quite a test during second practice for the Bahrain Grand Prix today. After running wide at turn four, the Venezuelan driver tried to accelerate through the corner and across the kerb, but caused his car to jump up as a result.

Despite quite a hard impact with the ground, he appeared to be okay and continued through the session without any problems and finished in 17th place for Lotus ahead of teammate Romain Grosjean.

Maldonado’s jump harks back to a similar incident for Vitaly Petrov at the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix, where he ran wide and landed so hard that the steering column on his car broke. Kimi Raikkonen also made a similar error to Maldonado at the same corner earlier today in Bahrain.
