We’re a bit delayed on posting this, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep thanking our lucky stars that Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires driver Lloyd Read emerged unscathed after this near miss.
The driver of the No. 28 Bryan Herta Autosport/Jeffrey Mark Motorsport entry went to the outside of the field through Turns 1-2-3 in the St. Petersburg season opener, but his momentum carried him right into the path of Scott Anderson’s debris field from his accident in the No. 24 Fan Force United entry.
Anderson lost a tire after he hit the wall exiting Turn 3 – the tire then bounded across the track and actually clipped Read’s right front mirror, only narrowly missing his helmet in the process.
Read’s on-track luck didn’t improve much in Long Beach this weekend, where he got this radio call.
Got the worst possible radio call ever today, “you’re on fire”. Man, is our luck ever going to change? pic.twitter.com/9D1h1EqyBI

If the racing gods are done toying with the poor Welsh rookie, then perhaps he can make it through the next round at Barber without a tire or fire coming into the picture.
