Long Beach’s future for IndyCar is secure through at least 2018. There’d been proposals and reports it was in the works and Tuesday night in a Long Beach City Council meeting, the three-year extension was formalized, via the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
An 8-0 vote by the Council, with one Councilman absent, was the vote.
There are two one-year renewal options added into the extension, so the race could stay with IndyCar through 2020.
The future of the race had been in some doubt with overtones made by Chris Pook about Formula One wanting to return, but for now, those overtones take a backseat to the new contract.
