IndyCar: James Hinchcliffe, Josef Newgarden are happy Space Campers (VIDEO)

Back when I was a little boy, I would watch Nickelodeon after I finished my elementary school homework. And when I recall those times, I remember that a lot of their game shows back then – you know, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Double Dare, and the like – had their grand prizes often be a trip to U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.

I was never really enamored with space growing up, so going to Space Camp wasn’t a childhood dream of mine. But I figure it was a childhood dream for many other kids.

And based on the video above, I figure it was indeed such for Verizon IndyCar Series drivers James Hinchcliffe and Josef Newgarden, who both visited the Camp before getting down to business this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park.

You’d figure that the happy-go-lucky duo would have a ball with the visit, and it looks like they did.

But while they had their fun, they also spoke with a group of campers from Dubai and Puerto Rico about the importance of teamwork and excelling in STEM – science, engineering, technology and math – according to AL.com.

Hinchcliffe and Newgarden will both look to put a tough Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach behind them this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN and NBC Sports Live Extra in the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.

The NTT IndyCar Series will return to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the third time this season but with a weekend schedule that will put the action in front of fans for the first time in 2020.

The track’s 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course will play host to IndyCar and sports cars series over four days. The action will begin Thursday with practice and concluding with an eight-hour race Sunday featuring the Intercontinental GT Challenge and GT World Challenge America.

The NTT IndyCar Series will hold a Friday-Saturday race doubleheader called the Harvest GP presented by GMR.

ENTRY LISTS: Who’s racing IndyCar at IMS this weekend

The name is a nod to the Harvest Classic, which was held Sept. 9, 1916 to help the track stay solvent during World War I. The event had three races of 20, 50 and 100 miles (all won by Johnny Aitken) that was the only racing held outside May at IMS from 1911-93.

A limited crowd of 10,000 will be allowed each day this weekend, and those fans will be the first to experience new video boards, concession stands, restrooms and 5G wireless connectivity.
