VIDEO: Relive Senna’s greatest ever qualifying lap in F1

Yesterday marked 20 years since the death of Ayrton Senna – arguably the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time – at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, and celebrations were held at Imola to commemorate his life and that of Roland Ratzenberger, who died during qualifying just one day earlier.

McLaren – the team with whom Senna won all three of his world titles – has also released a short video to remember one of his finest hours. During qualifying for the 1988 Monaco Grand Prix, Senna produced a lap of the Gods that saw him finish almost 1.5 seconds clear of the rest of the field; it was the finest single lap in the history of the sport.

20 years on, his spirit and legacy still endures.
