How many of our mothers told us to eat our cereal while we were growing up?
Randy Ricci’s mom probably did that, too, but we have to wonder if she told him to also keep the boxes the cereal came in.
Ricci, a resident of Santa Rosa, Calif., and a regular at Sonoma Raceway, started collecting cereal boxes with NASCAR themes or pictures of drivers on the covers back in 1989.
Now, a quarter-century later, Ricci is in the Guinness Book of World Records as having the largest collection of cereal boxes (now sits at 324) with one theme – NASCAR, of course, according to a video interview on ThisIsGuavo.com.
“I guess it became quite an obsession,” Ricci told “ThisIsGuavo.com”
Ricci, 60, trotted out his collection and displayed it on the start-finish line at Sonoma last month, and two just-released videos chronicle his unique hobby (see both below),
“Everyone wants to leave something behind … be it a legacy, or be it a collection dedicated to their life-long love of something,” Ricci told ThisIsGuavo.com. “Mine just happens to be a big collection of boxes!
“Some people may find it funny, and others may just smile. But if it puts a bit of positive focus away from all the bad things happening around the world then I’m happy.”
