Speaking to NBCSN’s Will Buxton after practice for the German Grand Prix on Friday, Mercedes team chief Toto Wolff explained how he is ensuring that there is a level playing field between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in 2014.
The two drivers are going head-to-head for the drivers’ championship this year, and are separated by just four points after nine rounds of the season. There have been cries of conspiracy from fans following mechanical failures for both drivers, but the team has kept everything fair between them, ensuring that they have the same tools to try and win the championship win.
It is a refreshing stance being taken at Mercedes, following years of team orders and one-sided partnerships at Red Bull and Ferrari. However, the risk of this is a crash between the two drivers, and although it is yet to happen, it will undoubtedly be playing on the mind of Mercedes’ management.
