The modernization of Formula One circuits continue with news Thursday that the legendary, iconic Autodromo Nazionale d’Monza will have the Parabolica corner, the last corner leading onto the front straight, lose its gravel trap to be replaced by tarmac.
While the tarmac may be safer in getting cars to stop, it may remove some of the challenge for drivers in that corner.
ESPN F1 reported that with a possible World Superbike return in 2015, this change may be in anticipation for that.
Drivers are already lamenting the change – here’s thoughts from ex-F1 shoes Karun Chandhok and Jerome d’Ambrosio, as well as current rising star Tom Dillmann from GP2:
So the Monza Parabolica now has Tarmac run off on the outside – another great corner that will lose it’s challenge pic.twitter.com/duFPirolZ8
