Spencer Pigot will test Schmidt Peterson Indy Lights car this weekend

Newly crowned Pro Mazda champion Spencer Pigot will have a chance to say goodbye to the outgoing Indy Lights chassis at this weekend’s upcoming Chris Griffis Memorial Mazda Road to Indy test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Pigot, who edged Scott Hargrove after a dramatic title bout this year, will test for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. He also sampled the car in a one-day test at Putnam Park last September.

“I’m looking forward to getting some experience in the (Schmidt Peterson) simulator ahead of the test,” Rising Star Racing driver Pigot said in a release. “The Lights car is bigger, and heavier, than the Pro Mazda (car). So you need to drive it differently, be as smooth as possible with it, particularly with your steering inputs. You want to carry a lot of speed into the corner but also keep the back end as settled as you can.”

Fellow Rising Star Racing driver Neil Alberico will be on site at IMS as well, although it wasn’t revealed whether he’ll be driving.

The Chris Griffis Memorial test will open with on-track action on Saturday, September 13 with Indy Lights practice set for 11:45 AM-12:45 PM and then close with a session from 4:20 PM-5:35 PM. Sunday’s schedule will see the same times for the second day of running.
