The mystery to one of the two remaining FIA Formula E seats was answered late Wednesday night with the news Takuma Sato will deputize for Antonio Felix da Costa at Amlin Aguri for this weekend’s Beijing series and season opener.
The other TBA is the identity of Andretti FE’s second driver. Ex-Marussia and Caterham F1 driver Charles Pic will fill the void alongside Franck Montagny. Pic, a Frenchman, had two nondescript seasons in F1 but should be solid alongside his countryman. He’s spent this year as a test driver for Lotus.
“This is very exciting! Formula E is a new challenge and concept, so there is a lot of excitement; you can feel it throughout the team,” Pic said in a team release. “I am very much looking forward to being part of the Andretti Formula-E Team family and to the first round of competition in Beijing.”
Meanwhile Matthew Brabham, who drove for Andretti Autosport in Indy Lights this season and Pro Mazda last year, will join the team as reserve driver. Young “Matty Brabs” has tested for Andretti FE this summer in preparation for a possible role with the team.
