Michael Waltrip avoids early “Dancing with the Stars” elimination

NASCAR Nation came through for two-time Daytona 500 champion Michael Waltrip.

Waltrip and “Dancing With The Stars” partner Emma Slater earned a low score of 25 during this season’s first round of the popular TV show.

But despite their Cha-Cha not gathering a lot of critical praise, they earned enough fan votes through last night’s elimination episode to push them into the second week.

According to NASCAR.com, Waltrip recognizes that he needs to improve in order to stay in the competition, but feels he can do it with Slater helping him.

“I know I can do so much better,” the site relays Waltrip saying during last night’s show. “You’re making me just ooze with happiness and confidence.”

As you’d expect, his brother, Darrell, and MWR pilots Brian Vickers and Clint Bowyer were happy to see Michael move on.

U.S. Olympian Lolo Jones was the first celeb to be eliminated. The competition resumes on Monday night, with fan voting also resuming after the show.
