Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso may have missed out on the chance to score his first pole position since the 2012 German Grand Prix today, but the Spanish driver was still pleased with his final qualifying position in Singapore today.

Alonso had finished fastest in FP1 and FP3 in Singapore, and despite showing good signs of pace in Q1 and Q2, he eventually finished fifth in Q3 behind the Mercedes and Red Bull drivers. Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen was sidelined in the final part of qualifying by a problem on his car, leaving him down in seventh place.

Speaking to NBCSN after the session, Alonso was upbeat about the result and his chances of a podium finish in the race tomorrow, calling it “the dream result”.
