Kevin Magnussen believes that McLaren cannot be happy with its qualifying performance in Singapore today despite the Dane reaching Q3 in his first ever competitive session at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Magnussen qualified inside the top ten for the seventh race in a row, finishing ninth as teammate Jenson Button was knocked out in Q2. The Briton will start tomorrow’s race from 11th place on the grid.
Speaking to NBCSN’s Will Buxton after qualifying, Magnussen made his feelings perfectly clear, saying how disappointed he was despite having never raced in Singapore before.
“We can’t be happy with today,” he said. “We’re clearly not fast enough this time.” You can see his full comments in the video above.
Magnussen’s comments come amid a difficult season for McLaren that has yielded just two podium finishes so far. Both he and Button are known to be at risk for their seats in 2015, but with Magnussen impressing week after week in qualifying, he appears to be in a good position to secure a second season in Formula 1 with the British team.
