Now it’s time to see how crazy this new Chase format can really be.
A caution-filled Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway has scrambled the fight to make the Top 12 and advance to the Contender Round.
And with just one more race remaining in the Challenger Round – this weekend’s AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway – expect the intensity to reach a new level.
“This race is going to be insane,” said Carl Edwards yesterday during a test session at Texas Motor Speedway. “I mean Loudon, you saw how pressure-packed it was and how many folks were pushing it and making mistakes.
“At Dover, I mean you add about 30 to 40 miles-an-hour, a bunch of banking and double the pressure, it’s going to crazy. So we have discussed it, we know what we have to do. We just have to go there and get every spot that we can. ”
Edwards is currently eighth on the Chase Grid at just eight points ahead of the Top 12 cutoff. For him and everyone all the way back to 16th-place Aric Almirola (-10 points behind the cutoff), it’s going to be a hectic 400 miles as they try to keep their championship hopes alive in Delaware.
The “Monster Mile” beckons. Here’s everything you need to know…
