Good news occurred Wednesday with the news that the Brabham name is now back under the Brabham family, and further to that, the family’s legacy of creation is going to resume.
For the first time in 20 years, Brabham Racing as a team will be back on a grid. The initial plan is to compete in the LMP2 class of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship, which includes the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours.
The ultimate dream is to bring the crowdsourced fan model to Formula 1 and potentially other exciting new series such as the FIA Formula E Championship.
Project Brabham will appeal to three groups of people who are interested in racing, fans, drivers and engineers. The team plans to provide unrivalled access for all three, through a knowledge-sharing portal that will be the first of its kind in the sport. Said team principal David Brabham in a release, “We have endured a long and testing journey to protect and bring the Brabham name back under the family’s control, then decide the next step in the journey of this iconic brand. I have long dreamt of seeing the Brabham Racing team back out on the track, winning at the highest level and continuing the legacy my father laid down when he first started the team in the Sixties.
