Instead of deciding to play it safe and protect their points cushion over the cutoff in Sunday’s Chase elimination race at Dover, Jeff Gordon and the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports team went into attack mode.

Strong from the start, Gordon made his move to the front with less than 100 laps to go and went on to win.

But while he ended the Challenger Round with a flourish, he figures to face a tougher task in the Contender Round with Kansas, Charlotte, and the next elimination race at Talladega.

“I think that Kansas is a great track for us, always has been, but this year we won there,” he said to the media after capturing his 92nd career Sprint Cup win. “Right now, I’m really excited about getting there and seeing what we can do.

“Regardless whether we win the next two races, we’re going to need to have really solid finishes, again, to have some comfort going into Talladega.”

Gordon further elaborated on the impact of his Dover win in a Victory Lane interview with NBCSN’s Kelli Stavast. You can check that out in the clip above.
