Something you probably didn’t know about Richard Petty: he likes to watch ‘Outer space crap’ and ‘Cowboy stuff’

Just when we thought there wasn’t much more to know about NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty, The King goes and surprises us.

For example, can you guess what was the last time The King went to a movie theater, and what was playing?

If you said Talladega Nights, you’d be off by about 18 years.

“Ooh,” Petty said, taking a pause to think about his answer when it was posed to him by USA Today.

“Probably Driving Miss Daisy or something like that,” he chuckled. “That’s how long it’s been since I’ve been to a movie. That’s what, 20 or 30 years ago? (Actually 25.) I couldn’t even tell you.”

But while he doesn’t go to the theater, Petty is a TV fan, particularly for shows that make him think.

“I watch a little bit of everything,” he said. “I watch the History Channel, anything with science, outer space crap. As far as just sitting down and watching a show, it doesn’t turn me on.

“When I read, I read biographies and true stuff; I don’t read fiction. So a lot of times, there’s so much fiction on TV. I’m bad about watching cowboy stuff though. I like those.”
