Another big wreck in NNS race; Ty Dillon to likely take big hit in points

CONCORD, N.C. – A second major wreck occurred in Friday night’s Drive For The Cure 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

At least six drivers were involved in this incident, which occurred on Lap 75 of the scheduled 200-lap event. An ESPN slow-motion replay made it appear that the Chevrolet Camaro of Ty Dillon was squeezed between Dakoda Armstrong and Eric McClure, triggering the bing-bang-boom pinball-like action.

From that point, three other drivers piled into the mayhem – David Starr, Ross Chastain and James Buescher – scattering debris across the track and prompting a red flag to clean up the debris.

However, Dillon said it wasn’t so much he got squeezed, but that he had a tire issue coupled with a mistake he made.

“I race with my heart on my sleeve every lap and I just go for it, that’s who I am,” Dillon said. “I made a mistake out there. I could have been smarter.”

Dillon came into the night ranked third in the NNS points. He’s likely going to take a big hit in the standings once the race is official.

The first major incident of the night, a 12-car wreck, occurred just a couple of seconds after the race began.
