Following on from this morning’s first practice session at the Sochi Autodrom, the drivers will get a second chance to get to grips with the all-new circuit in FP2 ahead of the Russian Grand Prix on Sunday.

This year’s race is the first ever Russian Grand Prix to be part of the F1 world championship, and the new complex in Sochi is certainly an impressive one, built around the site of the Winter Olympics.

It may be a brand new track, but some things never change: once again, Mercedes led the way with Nico Rosberg finishing fastest ahead of Lewis Hamilton at the top of the timesheets. With a good result this weekend, the Silver Arrows can sew up the constructors’ championship with three races to spare.

However, Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso both enjoyed good first runs at Sochi, and the veteran drivers will be gunning to complete the podium behind the Mercedes drivers on Sunday judging by their initial pace. However, as the weekend develops, the pecking order in Russia is likely to become clearer.

FP2 will give us a good chance to see some extensive running now that the track has been rubbered in, but anything besides a Mercedes one-two would be a surprise result.
