Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was one of the casualties from a strange qualifying session at Talladega Superspeedway that left many of his Sprint Cup peers confused and upset.
Stenhouse is one of two full-time Cup drivers that will not compete in Sunday’s GEICO 500 after failing to make the show. Cup rookie Justin Allgaier and part-timer Joe Nemechek (time disallowed; failed post-qualifying inspection for improperly sealed oil tank encasement) also did not qualify.
Now Stenhouse has given a statement on Twitter about the situation, prefaced with just five words: “All I got tough day.”
Meanwhile, Stenhouse’s No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing team has begun the journey back to North Carolina.
