Sunday’s Contender Round elimination race at Talladega Superspeedway saw the elimination of several big names that many expected to go deep into the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
But what’s been left behind is an interesting mix. Team Penske has both Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski in, while Hendrick Motorsports’ quartet is now down to a solo act with Jeff Gordon, and Joe Gibbs Racing has two of its three men (Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth) going on.
Those teams plus Stewart-Haas Racing and Kevin Harvick figured to be in the championship conversation. But we can’t forget about this tournament’s underdogs: Ryan Newman and Richard Childress Racing, and Carl Edwards and Roush Fenway Racing.
So is this parity a good thing for the Chase, which is now starting to resemble something close to March Madness? NASCAR AMERICA’s Kyle Petty and Jeff Burton gave their takes on today’s show, and you can see what they have to say in the clip above.
