F1 flashback: 10 years since Montoya, Williams scored Brazil win in first fall race

This year’s Brazilian Grand Prix marks 10 years since the race was moved from its traditional spring date near the start of the calendar to its move to near the end, either as the Formula One season finale or as one of the final few races.

In 2004, a year dominated by Michael Schumacher and Ferrari, Williams-BMW and Juan Pablo Montoya bagged the final win of the season at Interlagos.

It was to mark JPM’s last win with Williams, Williams’ last win with a BMW engine and Williams’ last win overall until Pastor Maldonado broke through to win the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix.

Since then, Fernando Alonso (2005 and 2006), Kimi Raikkonen (2007), Lewis Hamilton (2008), Jenson Button (2009) and Sebastian Vettel (2012) have secured World Championships at Brazil.

Montoya’s victory lap is above. JPM was actually in attendance at Austin last week, as a guest of Williams, for the United States Grand Prix.
