With none of the eight remaining Chasers locked into the Sprint Cup Championship Race, Sunday’s Eliminator Round finale at Phoenix will be pressure-packed for their respective pit crews.
Should a non-Chase competitor win for the third consecutive week, that means the four Championship Race drivers will be determined by points.
And with every position equal to one point on the track, even the smallest mistake on pit road can wipe out a Chase team’s drive to Homestead. That’s why veteran NASCAR crewman Mark “Hollywood” Armstrong says solid stops – and not so much lightning-fast ones – will be essential to success in the Valley of the Sun.
“These pit coaches this week are going back to their pit crews and saying, ‘Listen, guys – fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals,” Armstrong told NBCSN’s Marty Snider on today’s episode of NASCAR AMERICA.
