A crash for Force India reserve driver Dani Juncadella has forced Sergio Perez to miss the second free practice session in Brazil today, leaving him very little running ahead of this weekend’s race at Interlagos.
As part of his test duties, Juncadella stepped into Perez’s seat for the first session, but it came to an early end when he crashed at turn eight and ruined the front end of the car. The Spaniard was not the only driver to spin off as the newly-resurfaced track offered little in the way of grip, catching many of the more experienced heads out.
“It really is a shame when you end the session like this, especially on a race weekend because the main thing is that Checo has his car ready and that’s not what you want,” Juncadella said.
“I think it was the weirdest crash I’ve ever had. It was really unexpected because the track today was not difficult, but I would say weird to manage.”
The team could not repair the car in time to allow Perez to take part in FP2 at Interlagos, meaning that the Mexican driver will only have the hour-long FP3 session to prepare for qualifying on Saturday.
